Joe Knows: 13 tips on how you can prevent brush fires

NH1 Chief Meteorologist -

While precautions for brush fires have been in place the past several days due to the bone dry air that the state is experiencing, a Red Flag Warning has been set in place through 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Here are a few tips you need to know so you can prevent sudden brush fires from becoming something much more!!

1). Avoid burning in Red Flag conditions

2). Properly dispose cigarette butts

3). Know your insurance policy and what is covered

4). Teach children about fire danger

5). Remove all leaves, dry brush, flammable objects from around your home

6). Keep trees and bushes trimmed

7). Remove dead branches from trees around home

8). Remove vines from crawling on outside walls

9). Keep stacks of firewood at least 10 feet from home

10). Keep a long hose handy to reach far perimeters

11). Keep roofs and gutters free of leaves and debris

12). Mow lawn on regular basis, use care when refueling

13). Store gasoline and flammables in safe places
