Jenness Beach Bathhouse redevelopment called a 'safety hazard' by petitioners
RYE — The Jenness Beach Bathhouse redevelopment plan poses major safety hazards according to a new petition.
The petition, created by Ryan McGill of Rye, encourages project officials to further review this renovation project as some of the changes could cause several safety concerns for beach-goers and pedestrians.
The major safety concern listed in the petition has to do with the scale of the project. The current project would take away the only sidewalk in the Jenness Beach State Park in order to save the parking spots that would have been lost by the renovated bath house.
The bike path on the shoulder of Route 1A is also at risk of being shrunk in order to accommodate the redevelopment project.
The petition currently has 160 out of the 200 supporters needed.
