Jaffrey Police recover gun believed to be used in Saturday shooting

JAFFREY - Police investigating the shooting of a 42-year-old man Saturday believe they have located the weapon used in the crime.

The gun was discovered Sunday near where Jason D. Conety, 42, was found stumbling along the side of the road near a pick-up truck. Conety was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital and then to Elliot Hospital in Manchester where police say he was in stable condition Sunday morning.

Jaffrey Police Chief William Oswalt said a body of water near where Conety was found was pumped out Sunday and that's where the firearm was recovered. The chief said Conety and the pick-up truck were discovered about 150 feet from his employer's business.

Conety, who's home address was listed as on Main Street, recently moved to Jaffrey, and is employed by a local painting contractor, police said.

N.H. State Police Troop C and the Major Crimes Unit are assisting Jaffrey police in investigating the incident.

Proctor Road residents said Saturday night they were told by police to stay inside their homes, while others living closer to the scene said authorities told them to evacuate.
