Jaffrey, NH, man killed in car accident; other driver facing charges

RINDGE - A Massachusetts man is facing charges after an accident Thursday night that killed a Jaffrey man.

Police said a Buick Riviera driven by David D. Hoffman, 54, of Ashburnham, Mass., crossed the center line on Route 119 in Rindge shortly after 6:30 p.m., colliding with a Volvo wagon driven by Joseph B. Hautanen, 25, of Jaffrey.

Hautanen was declared dead on the scene, police said.

A passenger in the Volvo, Alyssa M. Collins, 25, of Jaffrey was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough with minor injuries, police said.

Hautanen also was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital and then transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, police said.

Police said an initial investigation revealed Hautanen had been drinking alcohol, and he is being charged with aggravated DWI.

The crash investigation is being handled by The State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit is in charge of the crash investigation and the Rindge Police Department and New Hampshire State Police Troop C are assisting.
