International lobster conference coming to Maine
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The most productive lobster fishing state in the country is hosting an international conference on the science and stewardship of the crustaceans.
The 11th International Conference and Workshop on Lobster Biology and Management is taking place from Sunday to June 9 in Portland, Maine. The event will include scientific presentations geared toward industry professionals, managers, biologists and others.
The U.S. lobster fishery has experienced booming catches in recent years, and it is centered in Maine. The state's fishermen caught more pounds of lobsters in 2016 than in any year in recorded history.
The University of Maine and Boston University are hosting the event.
