Inter Lakes teacher gets recognition from NH Motor Speedway and Aric Almirola

MEREDITH - Inter Lakes fifth grade teacher Patty Browher was chosen as the winner of "The Race to Succeed" and got a special visit from NASCAR driver Aric Almirola on Friday

"It was about how she didn't give up on a student,"Almirola said, flying in ahead of the big race at Loudon to recognize the standout teacher and meet with her class.

The award, developed in a partnership between the NH Lottery and the NH Motor Speedway, is intended to challenge teachers to go above and beyond in the classroom.

Browher had answered the call when a Hebrew-speaking girl in her class said she hated school because she couldn't understand English. With a translator's help, Browher was able to teach that student English -- proving that teaching isn't just a job.

Browher was both surprised and honored. "It's a validation of 31, going on 32, years of teaching that every day is a new day, and we're really big into personalized learning and whatever somebody needs, you find it for them, and you do what you need to for each individual child," she said.

"Teachers like Ms. Browher make the world go round," Almirola said. "It's education that makes people grow up and be smar and be able to do things in the world and make things happen.

Almirola presented Browher with a prize of $5,000 for her school and another $1,000 for her classroom.

Meanwhile he's hoping for a prize of his own this Sunday.

"Hopefully this classroom of Ms. Browher's will bring me some good luck, and we'll be able to hold up a trophy this weekend."
