Inmate missing from minimum security prison in Manchester


MANCHESTER — Officials have reported that an inmate is missing from the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit.

Matthew Michael Gerlach, 41, of Manchester was given permission to go out to visit his family on Thursday. He left the facility at 4:45 p.m. and was required to return at 8:45 p.m. He did not return and was placed on escape status an hour later.

Gerlach is a white male, 5' 9'', 240 pounds with strawberry hair and hazel eyes. He has multiple tattoos on both calves, his right arm, right wrist, right hand, and left arm.

He was sentenced to 2-7 years for receiving stolen property and theft by unauthorized taking. He is also serving 2-5 years for being deemed a habitual offender.

Anyone with any information should contact their local law enforcement agency or state police. Escape is a felony and is punishable to up to seven years in prison.
