Injured hiker rescued on Mount Chocorua

ALBANY - An 18-year-old Sanford, Maine hiker was injured and needed to be rescued Monday afternoon near the summit of Mount Chocorua in the White Mountain National Forest.

Zachary King was hiking the Champney Falls Trail to the summit along with three others. Approximately 2.8 miles from the parking area, Kang slipped on some ice and fell resulting in several injuries. Kang was unable to walk and 911 was called.

New Hampshire Fist and Game, Conway Fire and Rescue, Forest Service and Wilderness Medical students from Stoneheath Open Learning Opportunities responded. He was carried out in a litter and transported to Memorial Hospital in North Conway for evaluation and treatment. Fish and Game officials said the rescue was made difficult due to ice and snow at the elevation on the hiking trail.
