Injured hiker rescued from NH's North Baldface Mountain

CHATHAM - An injured hiker from Maine was rescued near the trail head of North Baldface Mountain Wednesday and taken to a local hospital for evaluation, according to the N.H. Fish and Game Department.

Timothy McClain, 41, of Portland, Maine, called 911 about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, reporting he had slipped on the Bicknell Ridge trail and injured his ankle. Rescuers from both N.H. Fish and Game and the Saco Valley Fire Rescue hiked four miles to reach McClain, stabilizing his injury and packaging him in a rescue litter.

The rescue was delayed due to the steepness of the terrain along with ice and snow, according to N.H. Fish and Game. McClain was taken by ambulance to Bridgeton Hospital in Maine for further evaluation and treatment.

North Baldface Mountain is located in the White Mountain National Forest. NH Fish and Game urges hikers to address appropriately for weather conditions. hike with a partner or group, and to carry necessary equipment.
