Influential Meredith woman with Down Syndrome passes away at 49
MEREDITH - A well-known Meredith woman with Down Syndrome has died at the age of 49.
Annie Forts worked to end stigmas attached to those with physical and mental disabilities. She won several awards for her work.
In 1997, Forts started the “Annie Forts Up Syndrome Fund” and raised over $300,000 to help provide enrichment opportunities to persons with Down Syndrome.
Calling hours will be held at the Mayhew Funeral Home in Meredith on Tuesday, May 31. The funeral will be held at the St. Charles Borromeo Church at 11 a.m.
