In Hawaii, Obama settles in for quiet end to 2014

The Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) President Barack Obama is settling in to his Hawaii vacation home for a quiet end to 2014.

Obama started the last day of the year with an early morning workout, then played a round of golf with friends on the island of Oahu. By 6 p.m., he was back at his rented home in Kailua for the evening.

Obama has stayed out of the limelight during his two-week trip with his family. He's rarely been seen in public and has spent most of his time golfing or on the beach with his wife and daughters.

New Year's marks the end of a rough year for Obama. After disastrous November elections, his Democratic Party is set to cede full control of Congress to Republicans at the start of 2015.
