IMF: Greek bailout talks to resume only after election

The Associated Press

ATHENS, Greece (AP) The International Monetary Fund says Greece's stalled bailout review will resume only after the new government is in place, following national elections called for Jan. 25.

In a statement Monday, IMF spokesman Gerry Rice said Greece faces no immediate financing needs.

The IMF and eurozone countries have kept Greece afloat since 2010, when the heavily indebted country nearly went bankrupt. In exchange, governments in Athens implemented deeply resented spending cuts and tax hikes, to restore the public finances.

Greece's talks with its bailout creditors have been stalled for months amid disagreements over required new spending cuts.
