Illegal campfire ignites brush fire in Dunbarton

DUNBARTON - A brush fire believed to have been started by an illegal campfire scorched an acre of woodlands Sunday in a remote area of the Kuncanowet Town Forest and Conservation Area near Gorham Road.

The fire brought out departments from Dunbarton, Weare, Bow, Hopkinton, Goffstown and New Boston Fire on Sunday and Monday.

A witness reported seeing a red truck and a white van or SUV parked in the area around 5 p.m. Saturday. The vehicles were seen leaving the area around 4 p.m. Sunday. An older model beige sedan was also seen in the parking area. Officials believe the fire was started by an illegal camp fire and that there were trash left at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dunbarton Police Department at (603) 774-5500.
