Icy mix closes Interstate 93 South in Manchester, dozens of accidents reported

CONCORD - Interstate 93 South in Manchester near Exit 8 closed this morning due to several crashes.

The wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain iced over roadways and make for a dangerous commute this morning.

There were also major delays at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport as it issued an alert about the number of new cancellations and delays.

NH1 News’ First Alert Weather Warning on Monday proved solidly accurate as snow fell overnight with about two to four inches. The warmer temperature caused the precipitation to be wetter as well and this created a slippery crust atop some of the fallen snow.

Later today, heavy rain and wind is forecast with gusts as much as 50 mph.

Temperatures warm through the week though our NH1 News weather team is tracking another system that could bring snow and/or showers on Saturday.

Speed reductions on other roadways including Interstate 89 and the Spaulding Turnpike were lifted after 9 a.m. today.
