I scream, you scream, we all scream for Fat Elvis at featured NH ice cream shop
It's the first day of summer — the summer solstice and longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. That means it's time for camp, swimming, biking and ice cream.
Jordan's Homeade Ice Cream, in Belmont, which just opened its second location near Fun Spot in Laconia, made this year's list of "Craziest ice cream flavors in every state" at the food website delish.com.
Jordan's White Chocolate Habanero is featured as the Granite State's highlighted flavor for 2017. Shop owner Craig Jordan said Wednesday he makes hundreds of different flavors every summer, including one with banana, candied bacon and peanut butter titled Fat Elvis.
The list of delish.com faves include olive oil at the Bent Spoon in New Jersey, blueberry goat cheese at Leone's Creamery in North Dakota and sweet corn at Sweet Republic in Scottsdale, Arizona.
As for the Chocolate Habanero, it gets rotated through the New Hampshire shop's list of special flavors.
"It's not one of our everyday flavors," he said. "We made it once this year, and will probably make it again."
Jordan's has been in business for 23 years and they have been creating new flavors for two years.
Jordan said the habanero flavor has moved down the shop's list of special tastes, which also has included beer-and-pretzel flavored ice cream with chocolate-covered pretzels.
The shop offers four new tastes each month, serving them in small dishes on a flight paddle, similar to how beer and wine is served. "We have a new flight every month," Jordan said.
For June, Jordan's has orange pineapple mimosa, gin and tonic, chianti, and apple with wasabi and white chocolate.
"It's a lot of fun. We make it all ourselves. There's only so many times I can make vanilla and not fall asleep at the machine," Jordan said.
