Hunter fined $500 for accidentally shooting man in New England forest

The Associated Press

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (AP) — A Greenfield man who accidentally shot another hunter in the ear has been fined $500.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that the shooting occurred while 66-year-old David Podlenski was in the woods in Williamstown during wild turkey season in April.

Police say Podlenski told them he briefly saw a turkey, but lost sight of it. That's when he saw something move in front of him and fired a single shot.

Police say he heard screaming and found the 50-year-old victim bleeding from his head. The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Podlenski was found guilty of causing personal injury with a hunting weapon and a judge fined him.
