CONCORD - It was an emotional night as the community remembered a 13-year-old girl who died following surgery to remove a brain tumor.
Hundreds gathered Monday night at The Concord Center of the Arts to remember Molly Banzhoff. Banzhoff went to the hospital May 1 with a severe headache and the tumor was discovered. After surgery, she slipped into a coma and she died a few days later.
"No matter how little she had to give, she always found a way to make sure everyone was their happiest and at their best," said one of her friends. "I am so grateful I got to know her."
Banzhoff was a dancer and loved to perform on stage. Her family said holding a show in honor of Banzhoff was the perfect way to celebrate her life. Friends said her personality is one that many will remember.
"She had a smile that just lit up the room," said dance friend Sophie Kelly. "She made a big impact on everyone."
Banzhoff was also a gymnast and her teachers described her as a student with a thirst to learn. Others said she loved to play instruments and pink was her favorite color.
"Pink was her signature color, so-to-speak, and she even had a pink violin," said her former gymnastics coach Robyn Grant. "We thought what a better way to honor her than to look around and see all these people wearing pink for Molly" as she pointed to the room filled with people dressed in different shades of pink.
A fund-raiser has been created to help the family. It has raised almost $30,000.
