Hudson police asking drivers to avoid Ferry Street area

HUDSON - Police are asking afternoon and evening commuters to avoid the Ferry Street area.

The road was closed after an accident this afternoon.

At 1:30 p.m., the Hudson Police Department responded to Ferry Street at Library Street for a report of an accident. The Hudson Department of Public Works was clearing the sidewalk of snow and ice on the north side of Ferry Street at the corner of Library Street with a Bobcat Loader. A top portion of the Bobcat Loader caught a guy wire from a utility pole at that location, causing the top of the pole to snap.

There were no injuries in the accident, but the pole needs immediate replacement.

Utility crews are on scene accessing and repairing the pole at the time of this release.

Ferry Street is part of Route 111 in Hudson and is heavily traveled during the evening commute. Ferry Street is closed at this time at Library Street. The Hudson police urge drivers to seek alternate routes for the afternoon and evening commute until the pole has been replaced and the road opened to traffic.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
