Hudson police arrest habitual offender in stolen car


HUDSON - A habitual offender was caught outside outside a pool store in a stolen car by police early Sunday morning and now faces several charges.

Police said John Polito, 53, of Boston, was parked outside ASAP Pools, 162 Lowell Road, about 2 a.m. but drove off when police approached. Officers watched Polito drive to another nearby plaza. Police attempted to stop the car, but it circled the length of the plaza before pulling out onto Lowell Road.

Polito pulled over the car and police found he was a deemed an habitual offender, a felony in New Hampshire. He was arrested and charged with prowling, being a felon in possession of a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled drug, and being an habitual offender. Police then discovered the 1997 Volkswagen Golf he was driving had been reported stolen out of Manchester and police charged him with receiving stolen property.

Polito declined bail and he was subsequently transported to the Hillsborough County House of Corrections in Manchester. Polito is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning.
