Huckabee suspends presidential campaign

NH1 News Political Director

CONCORD -- In 2008 former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee won the Iowa caucuses, launching him into a protracted battle with Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the eventual winner of the Republican presidential nomination.

Eight years later, it was a very different story for Huckabee.

The longshot for the GOP nomination suspended his Republican presidential campaign on Monday night, after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses.

"I am officially suspending my campaign. Thank you for all your loyal support," Huckabee wrote on twitter.

A senior Huckabee campaign official told NH1 News that the former Arkansas governor would be heading home and would not be endorsing any other candidate in the GOP race at the present time.
