House passes bill that gives schools Common Core option
House members pass HB 267 today which allows local school districts to opt out of Common Core standards. The bill passed in a vote that was almost right down party lines. After the vote House Republicans expressed support for the bill, emphasizing the importance of letting school systems have final say over curriculum.
The controversial teaching method has been scrutinized by some educators and parents, some of the uproar over the way Common Core teaches multiplication. We found a few third-grade math worksheets online and showed them to two House members of the Education Committee.
