Hollis Brookline High School golfers learning from a pro, James Turner

NASHUA – James Turner got to thinking and eventually the idea was winning him over. In the spring, parent of a golfer on the Hollis Brookline High School varsity mentioned that the HB coaching job was open and that he should apply. “I wasn’t really sure I had time,” Turner said. “But then they (school officials) called me and I couldn’t turn it down.” Why? First, Turner loves to teach the game of golf, something he’s made his living at as Sky Meadow Country Club’s head pro the last four years and assistant pro for five before that, a PGA certified teaching professional. Second, he played for the Cavaliers from 1996-99. Thus, HB has the luxury of a pro teaching its golfers. “Teaching high school kids is going to be a little bit different,” said Turner, who graduated from New England College with a degree in sports and recreation management, but almost immediately began working in the golf business. “I’m going to help them through some things with the game, but you can’t help them too much because it’s a very quick season.
