Hiker who went off Mt. Major trail looking for dog rescued

ALTON (AP) — New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say they rescued a hiker who went off a trail looking for her dog on Mount Major in Alton and became lost.

Officials say 48-year-old Madeline Fruciano, of Saugus, Massachusetts, was hiking with her dog Sunday afternoon when they got separated and Fruciano went into the woods looking for it.

She called 911 and rescuers were able to get a coordinate that led them to her location about half a mile from the trail. Her dog was located by hikers on the trail who brought it down to the trailhead, where dog and owner were reunited.
