Hiker, dog fall into brook on Mount Washington
MOUNT WASHINGTON - A Pennsylvania man hiking the Chandler Brook Trail with his dog needed some assistance Sunday after slipping off a log and falling into knee-deep icy waters, authorities said.
Evan Scott, 25, was attempting to cross a brook with his dog when he slipped, reported N.H. Fish and Game. Scott was able to get himself and dog out of the brook, but became hypothermic in the cold, windy, and snowy conditions.
Rescue personnel from the Mount Washington State Park, Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue, and conservation officers from New Hampshire Fish and Game responded, hiking down from the Mount Washington Auto road. They met Scott at the bottom of the Chandler Brook Trail, close to the junction of Great Gulf Trail. Scott changed footwear and warmed up in the time it took for rescuers to make it to his location. Scott hiked back down the Great Gulf Trail with the assistance of the rescue party. He declined further medical treatment.
