Henniker garage fire started inside plow truck, officials say

HENNIKER - A fire that destroyed a garage and the entire plow fleet of the Henniker Highway Dept. started in one of the town's plow trucks, Henniker Fire Chief Steve Burritt tells NH1 News.

The fire broke out around 7:50 p.m. on Friday.

The blaze completely destroyed a town garage used to store large trucks used for plowing.

Chief Burritt said the vehicle was too burned to identify an exact cause, but the NH Fire Marshal's office was on scene Saturday investigating.

An insurance claim has been filed, but it will take time before the town can replace their plow trucks.

In the meantime, other towns - including Antrim, Bradford, Deering, Hillsborough, Hopkinton and Weare - have stepped up to lend vehicles and equipment to assist in storm cleanup. The state may also be able to offer 5 plows on a temporary basis.

The town is asking for patience from residents, and to give the Highway Dept. continued support.
