Hassan to speak at Derry forum on substance abuse

The Associated Press

DERRY — Gov. Maggie Hassan will speak about the state's response to heroin and prescription drug abuse, including youth prevention efforts, during a community forum focused on substance abuse.

The Greater Derry Public Health Network and Pinkerton Academy are hosting the forum called 'Our Kids and the Opiate Crisis' on Wednesday evening at the Derry Boys' and Girls' Club. Topics at the event include facts on opiate and prescription drug abuse in New Hampshire, the state and county response to the crisis and a discussion on prevention.

Drug overdose deaths have spiked in New Hampshire since last year. The state just purchased 5,000 kits of the opioid overdose reversal drug naloxone and is launching a public awareness campaign about accessing treatment and recovery services.
