Hassan to nominate Kreis as consumer advocate

CONCORD — Gov. Maggie Hassan is nominating Donald Kreis as consumer advocate, a position that watches out for utility ratepayers.
Kreis was a recommendation of the Residential Ratepayers Advisory Board, which conducted a search to fill the position as charged by statute.
Hassan plans to nominate him at the Executive Council meeting Wednesday.
She said the consumer advocate's office is a critical voice in informing the Public Utilities Commission's charge of balancing the interests of ratepayers and utilities, doing important work to protect consumers and ensuring that New Hampshire families and businesses receive safe, affordable and reliable utility services.
Kreis, of Hartland, Vt., is a senior energy law fellow at Vermont Law School's Institute for Energy and Environment. He served as general counselor for the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission.
