Hassan, Senate Republicans at odds over $11.3B budget plan

CONCORD — Senate Republicans and Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan have drawn political battle lines heading into the final months of budget negotiations.
The Senate will vote on its $11.3 billion spending plan in the coming week. Senate and House budget writers will then hash out a plan to send to Hassan.
The existing $10.7 billion spending plan ends June 30. Hassan has the power to veto the budget or let it pass into law without her signature.
Senate budget writers restored most of the House cuts to social service programs that prompted backlash. But the parties are at odds mainly over business tax cuts, employee pay raises and money for Medicaid expansion.
Hassan is also challenging the Senate's accounting and criticizing a roughly $6 million cut to mental health funding.
