Hampton man charged after four-hour standoff, suicidal threats

HAMPTON - Phillip Mitchell, 31, of Hampton was arrested after police say he put others in harm’s way during a suicidal standoff Monday evening.

Police say Mitchell was making threats and holding a handgun while his family was still inside the home. Officers helped family members safely exit the residence.

After lengthy negotiations involving the Seacoast Emergency Response Team, Mitchell did agree to come out of the residence and surrender to police after about four hours.

Mitchell is charged with reckless conduct and is scheduled to be arraigned on April 19 in Seabrook District Court.
