Gronkowski carted off after hit to knee

The Associated Press

New England's do-everything tight end, Rob Gronkowski, was carted off the field after taking a hit to his right knee late in the game against the Broncos.

Gronkowski laid out to try to make a catch while Denver defensive back Darian Stewart dove to try to break up the play. Stewart hit Gronkowski's knee and the tight end lay on the field, writhing in pain.

The Patriots were already without receivers Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola.

New England lead 21-17 with 2:31 left at the time of the play.

The Broncos ended up winning in overtime 30-24.
