CONCORD — Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) is urging residents and visitors to take appropriate precautions and stay safe as a significant winter storm is expected to arrive in New Hampshire on Sunday.

The National Weather Service said New Hampshire could see one to two feet of heavy, wet snow fall across the state, along with strong winds of up to 50 mph. Coastal residents are especially advised to watch out for high winds, splash-over, beach erosion, and minor flooding.

Gov. Chris Sununu urged people to stay off the roads unless it is absolutely necessary.

"As another winter storm approaches the region that is expected to bring significant snowfall beginning tomorrow morning, we have been working closely with state emergency management officials to coordinate preparedness efforts with local communities and utility companies," Gov. Sununu said.

"We are monitoring the storm's path and will provide updates throughout the evening and into tomorrow as needed. While I recommend that folks stay off the roads if they are able to during the storm, I encourage those who must travel to use common sense, plan ahead for dangerous conditions and exercise extreme caution," he said.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for all of New Hampshire starting Sunday at noon through Monday. Blizzard watches are in effect along the coast starting late tonight and into Monday.
