Gov. Hassan taps Concord's Meyers as NH's next health commissioner

The Associated Press

CONCORD- Gov. Maggie Hassan has nominated Jeffrey Meyers to be the state's next commissioner of Health and Human Services.

Meyers, of Concord, is currently the department's director of Intergovernmental Affairs, where he works with the governor, legislators, federal officials and other health care entities to develop department programs.

Hassan announced the nomination Wednesday.

Meyers is a lawyer who has also been a lobbyist for the Granite Healthcare Network, chief legal counsel to Gov. John Lynch, counsel for the state Senate and an assistant attorney general.

The Executive Council must confirm Meyers. Hassan will formally nominate Meyers at a special council meeting Jan. 4. To give enough time for a public hearing, she'll also nominate him as acting commissioner so he can take over Jan. 8 when outgoing Commissioner Nick Toumpas leaves.
