Gov. Hassan heading to school district for award ceremony

The Associated Press

KINGSTON (AP) — Gov. Maggie Hassan is heading to a regional school district to celebrate an award educators are receiving for helping students develop critical thinking skills.

Hassan will attend a ceremony at Sanborn Regional High School in Kingston Monday, where educators are receiving an award from the Nellie Mae Education Foundation. The foundation's annual Lawrence W. O'Toole Award recognizes an educator, school, non-profit or district that has shown leadership in the helping student-center approaches to learning move forward in New England.

The Sanborn Regional School District is one of four participating in the state's Performance Assessment for Competency Education pilot to reduce the level of testing in favor of more localized assessment tools.

The ceremony takes place at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
