Gorham man arrested, charged with second-degree murder in shooting
GORHAM - An arrest has been made in connection with a deadly shooting.
Gorham police could hear the gunshots from inside the police station at 20 Park St. around 6:40 p.m. Monday.
Police responded and found Michael Welch, 27, with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police found Welch lying on the sidewalk in front of Gorham Common Park.
Officers were pointed to a man leaving the scene and identified as Christopher Drouin, 25, of Gorham. Police arrested Drouin charged him with second-degree murder for allegedly shooting Welch with a handgun. Drouin also was charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting at John Gillespie, 30, another man who was with Welch at the time of the shooting.
Drouin was arraigned Tuesday in Belin district court. He is being held without bail. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for April 14.
