GoFundMe goal to pay off parking ticket exceeded after NH teen faces harassment online

MANCHESTER — A teen who was the target of internet trolls after creating a GoFundMe to pay for a parking ticket exceeded her goal by $100 in less than a week.

The GoFundMe, created by 16-year-old Ashley Mathieu-LaFrance, raised $350 in 6 days. Mathieu-LaFrance received harassment from a number of individuals after sharing her GoFundMe on Facebook Monday.

Some social media users called her spoiled and lazy, while others expressed anger or confusion over the fundraising effort.

Despite the internet backlash, Mathieu-LaFrance's $250 goal was exceeded in less than a week, with many of the donation comments apologizing for the harassment she experienced and offering her words of encouragement.

As of Sunday, the GoFundMe had been shared about 7,000 times across various social media platforms and 28 people had donated to the campaign.
