Gilford Police: Man caught with meth after fleeing, trying to hit officer with car
GILFORD - Police charged a man for resisting arrest and for the possession of meth after he refused to cooperate during a traffic stop and attempted to run the officer over, they said.
Police were in the are of Lakeshore Road Thursday night when an officer attempted to pullover a Shawn Meiklejohn for several motor vehicle violations.
The driver of the Saab, Shawn Meiklejohn, 45, of White River, Vt., refused to pullover and police said he tried to run over an officer - who was out of his cruiser - at one point during the chase.
Meiklejohn finally stopped in the parking lot of Case N’ Keg and then fled on foot.
He was evetually caught and taken into custody.
Police said Meiklejohn had meth and was charged with a Class B felony for one count of possession of controlled/narcotic drugs; Class A misdemeanors of disobeying an officer, resisting arrest or detention and driving after revocation or suspension; Class B misdemeanors of driving after revocation or suspension and driving without giving proof; and five motor vehicle violation offenses.
Meiklejohn was transported to the Belknap County House of Corrections where he is being held on $10,000 cash bail and a $5,000 personal recognizance bail.
