Gifts Derry boy sent to Florida family stolen

DERRY - Several people are now offering to help out a Florida family after the gifts a 7-year-old Derry boy sent to them were stolen.

Jonas Welch had collected presents for the Elston family in Florida.

James Elston is a wounded warrior and Jonas adopted his family through the organization Operation Ward 57. Elston and his wife have seven children.

The Welches shipped two packages to the Elstons that were worth about $300. Someone signed for the packages when they were delivered by FedEx, but the Elstons never received them.

One of the packages contained a gift card that was used at a Winn Dixie grocery store on Dec. 13. The items were insured, but police do not know when the Welches will receive the insurance money.

Anyone who wants to help the family can make a donation to Operation Ward 57.
