Giffords helps start New Hampshire anti-gun violence group

The Associated Press

CONCORD (AP) — Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is helping launch a bipartisan coalition in New Hampshire aimed at preventing gun violence.

Giffords was badly wounded in a 2011 shooting that left six dead and 13 injured in Tucson. She spoke in Concord on Tuesday, a day after the third anniversary of the mass shooting at Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary School. She says she saw great courage when her life was on the line, and that it's now time for political leaders to be courageous and responsible.

The coalition wants to close loopholes that allow felons, domestic abusers and the dangerously mentally ill buy guns without undergoing criminal background checks.
