Gene Connolly - diagnosed with ALS - to celebrate last Concord High graduation as principal

CONCORD - Concord High School's seniors are graduating Saturday in what will be the last graduation ceremony for Principal Gene Connolly.

Connolly announced in October that he was retiring at the end of the 2015-2016 school year in part because of his struggle with ALS - also known as Lou Gherig's disease.

Connolly can not speak, instead he uses a voice synthesizer on his iPad.

Students dedicated a bench in his honor earlier this week.

Many have organized events or fundraisers to support Principal Connolly and others battling ALS including brothers Derek and Dylan Thomson of Concord who are cycling journey the United States to raise money for ALS patients.
