Gang activity suspected in recent cases of shots fired in Manchester
MANCHESTER - For the second time in as many days, shots were fired on South Street near Lowell Street, and police say they suspect the incidents are gang related.
This latest incident was reported at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night near 18 South St. The prior incident took place near the same location the night before around 10:30 p.m.
Officers located a 9mm shell casing between the driveway of 245 Lowell St. and 13 South St. last night. The intended target of last night's incident has not been determined, and police say they don't know if it is the same individual as the previous night. Police are still working on identifying the shooter in each of the two events.
Two of the neighbors allegedly witnessed the potential shooter and described him as possibly Hispanic or African-American, wearing dark colored clothing and winter hat with ear flaps.
Investigators say the ongoing violence appears to be gang related and police have been directed by Police Chief Nick Willard to identify, locate and speak with alleged gang members possibly involved in the surge in violence. The incidents remain under investigation.
