FRANKLIN - Two "filthy" children, one wearing only one shoe and the other riding a bike in heavy traffic without a helmet, led police to arrest a man and woman on drug and child endangerment charges.
Police said they arrived at an apartment complex at 6:15 p.m. to find the unattended children - a young boy and a female under the age of 5. Officers asked where they lived and the kids brought them some distance away to 15 Plains Court.
Officers met with Cherrie Fleck, 37, and 19-year-old Tristin Thibault, who were in charge of the children. The two said they assumed the children were in the backyard and did not know they had left. Officers then noticed the smell of burning marijuana.
Fleck and Thibault were arrested for possession of a controlled drug and child endangerment and were released on bail.
The children were placed in the custody of the boy's mother.
