Franklin PD issue warning about carfentanil after deadly drug found in city

FRANKLIN - The Franklin Police Department is issuing a public safety warning after the potent drug carfentanil was found in the city.

Franklin Police say carfentanil is incredibly dangerous and should not be handled by untrained professionals as it can be easily absorbed through the skin or airways.

"If you locate what you believe to be an illegal substance DO NOT touch it, call your local police department," Franklin police wrote on their Facebook page.

Carfentanil is an opioid 100 times more potent than fentanyl. It is used to tranquilize large animals such as elephants.

NH1 has reached out to the Franklin Police, and will update this story as more information becomes available.
