Frank Monahan Foundation aims to raise $10,000 for local kids with basketball tournament

CONCORD - The late Frank Monahan was a beloved New Hampshire coach for 30 years, from the early '60s until his sudden death in 2000.

His contribution to youth sports, and children in general, is something that those he mentored say they will never forget.

Frank Monahan Foundation founder Marshall Crane said, "All around family, friend, father and most well known as a coach, but just a warm heart. Whether you are the best player on the team or last man on the bench, he cared about each and every person on the team, and the school (Bishop Brady) as well."

Although he passed away in 2000, a foundation named after him aims to continue to give back to the community. The non-profit Frank Monahan Foundation has only been in existence for two years but has already raised $100,000 dollars for local programs for children and youth sports.

Crane said, "We helped build two outdoor basketball courts, as well as the New Hampshire children's trust, as well as the Boys and Girls Club."

The foundation has also donated money to music programs at Bishop Brady and Concord High.

And they're at it again this weekend. The 2nd annual Basketball Showcase tournament hopes to raise $10,000 dollars for the Concord Boys and Girls Club. Five games, eight teams and 50 student athletes battling it out on the hard court.

Crane said it will feature, "Four prep school games and one high school game featuring Bishop Brady verses Lebanon. it's some of the top talent here in the northeast with teams from Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts."

They promise a good time for all who attend, and it's all for a good cause.

The tournament is this Sunday at Bishop Brady High in Concord. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. All of the proceeds benefit the Concord Boys and Girls Club and the James Ceriello Scholarship. Click here for more information.
