Former Portsmouth mayor wants citizens to run for office with OnePortsmouth website

The Associated Press

PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth's former mayor has launched a website aimed at increasing civic engagement in the city.

The Portsmouth Herald reports the goal of the new website, called One Portsmouth, is to encourage residents to run for city council or serve on volunteer boards and commissions.

Former Mayor Steve Marchand says his mission is to get more "talent" involved in Portsmouth's public life, especially those who are willing to compromise with others in office.

The One Portsmouth website is up in time for the start of the election season at the end of August, as well as its presence on social media platforms.

Marchand says by increasing the number of "highly skilled people who seek office," the quality of the city's boards and commissions will improve.
