NH1.com

A new road race has been scheduled for later this month, designed with the dual purpose of honoring a former police chief and a Gate City organization dear to his heart.

The inaugural Extreme Chunkin' 5K, to be held in Loudon on Oct. 15, will funnel proceeds to Nashua's Police Athletic Association and stand as a tribute to former Nashua Police Chief Don Gross.

The retired chief died at age 65 from injuries he received in a fire at his Andover home in January.

The race kicks of at 8 a.m. Tickets are $30 and the deadline to register is Oct. 12.

Additional information about the race can be found online through Millennium Running.

According to The Telegraph of Nashua, the running of the race coincides with a pumpkin launching competition. Gross was one of the founders of the Extreme Punkin Chunkin' competition.

Gross retired from the Nashua Police Department in 2004, having been on the force since 1972. He was active in town government in Andover.
