Former Durham grocery store owner faces legal resistance in water billing lawsuit

DURHAM — Chuck Cressy, the former owner of the Durham Marketplace, is suing the Town of Durham for improperly installing water meters that overbilled him for water usage.

But the town has filed a motion saying the statute of limitations on the matter has expired, according to Foster's Daily Democrat.

Cressy is suing Durham for about $40,000 plus attorney’s fees to rectify the amount of money he says he overpaid from 2011 to 2015.

The Durham Marketplace was purchased by Hannaford Supermarkets in 2015.
