Flat tire, scuffle on I-93 leads to drug charges for driver

A N.H. State Trooper pulled over to assist a motorist changing a flat tire on Interstate 93 in Derry on Monday, but things went south in a hurry.

A trooper was helping David Tanner, 22, of Franconia, get his car back on the road when he suspected Tanner may have been transporting a quantity of illegal drugs, according to police.

As the trooper was investigating, Tanner allegedly became upset and shoved the trooper into the travel lane of the highway and a brief struggle ensued. Police say two good Samaritans assisted the trooper, who was not injured during the incident.

A search warrant for Tanner's vehicle was granted and police say they recovered marijuana.

Tanner is expected to appear in the 10th Circuit District Court on June 12. He is facing charges of transporting a controlled drug, possessing a controlled drug with intent to distribute, disobeying a police officer, disorderly conduct and simple assault.
