Fishing boat hits swimmer in Lake Winnipesaukee on Sunday

MOULTONBORO - The N.H. Marine Patrol is investigating an accident on Lake Winnipesaukee involving a powerboat that struck a swimmer on Sunday morning.

Police say the accident occurred around 8 a.m. in the area between Long and Dow islands.

The preliminary investigation indicated that an 18-foot outboard fishing boat with two men on board hit a swimmer who was accompanied by a kayaker. The occupants of the fishing boat say they saw the kayaker but not the swimmer in the water.

The victim was taken onto the fishing boat and brought to shore where he was taken to the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to contact the N.H. State Police Marine Patrol at (603) 293-2037 ext. 0. Police said the names of all parties involved were withheld pending notification of family members.
