First on NH1 News: Three generations of Ayotte women in the GOP Senator's new TV ad

CONCORD – Sen. Kelly Ayotte teams up with her mom Kathy and her daughter Kate in the latest TV ad released by her Republican re-election campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Ayotte, seen walking with her mom and daughter in the television commercial, says “growing up, I watched my mom work so hard. Through challenges and struggles, she made our lives better. She’s my inspiration in the Senate – whether strengthening Social Security or Medicare, protecting our environment, or helping make college more affordable.”

“She taught me that with hard work,” Ayotte continues.

Her daughter then asks “you can do anything?”

Her mom jumps in to answer, saying “anything.”

“My mom taught me that too,” her daughter adds.

The Ayotte campaign says the spot, which was first reported Monday by NH1 News, is part of their fall campaign, running statewide on broadcast and cable TV in New Hampshire, including WBIN-TV, the television home of NH1 News.

Ayotte’s being challenged by Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan in one of the nation’s most high profile, expensive and negative U.S. Senate races. Outside groups have poured in more than $50 million to run TV ads, most of them attacking either Ayotte or Hassan.

Ad spending by the two campaigns has been much smaller in scope and the spots have been mostly positive. But in recent weeks the Hassan campaign has aired two commercials critical of Ayotte’s votes in the U.S. Senate.

Both Ayotte and Hassan have battled over four issues mentioned in the new ad: Social Security, Medicare, the environment, and college affordability. They traded fire over each of the issues at their first debate last Friday in North Conway.

The most recent polling in the race indicates a very close contest, with both candidates within the margin of error.
