First Alert Weather: It's already winter on the NH mountains, check out the snow

NH1 Chief Meteorologist - NH1.com

The first flakes are already flying in the mountains!

One front swept past New England today, bringing snow showers and gusty winds on top of Mt Washington with just a trace of snow and rime ice. A secondary cold front will begin to bring even colder air into northern New England after midnight, with scattered snow showers continuing and the summits staying mostly in the clouds.

A weak wave of low pressure will develop along this front and provide periodic snow showers on and off through Saturday along with upsloping winds sometimes gusting to 50 mph.

Mid winter conditions can be expected on many mountain tops across the White Mountains Saturday. Temperatures will continue their downward trend Saturday, with wind chills falling into single digits to below zero readings by late afternoon. The freezing level will be dropping so that even at elevations of 1,500 feet, any light shower may briefly change to snow during the afternoon.

Unseasonable cold will continue into Sunday, with temperatures struggling to climb out of the single digits at the summits.

Meanwhile down in the lower elevations, conditions will not be nearly as extreme.

Please be advised. This may not be the weekend to try to reach the top of the mountain. You may be putting your life at risk if not prepared and a very experienced climber.
